I currently have regulare site finished HW. Every 5 or 6 years when it starts to look dull I take a fine grit sand paper and using a hand sander I lightly buff the floors. I then put a thin coat on.

Where I am moving there will be prefinished. Can the same be done with prefinished? what happens with the bevels on the edges? I dont want to take the whole top off, I just buff it enough so the top coat will stick.

Thanks,
Bill

Pre finished is trickier . Along with the buffing, most of us also use something like Bona Prep to aid in chemical adhesion. My process is to use the Clarke square buffer with 180 or 220 grit screens . After that I use my disc buffer and a 3M maroon pad to work Bona Prep into the finish .This process will help your new coat adhere ,especially in the V grooves which typically cause new finish to pimple or bubble if not dealt with properly.

Look into the Tykote finishing system. It will work for prefinished. As will the process the guy above described. I would also recommend using a square buffer.

So it sounds like I can refresh the top coat but I will need to buff a little more to ensure it sticks. I will check out the product you are recommending but I prefer to keep things simple.

Thanks
Bill
