Just an observation while setting my Lauzon 3.25" red birch - about 1-2% of the boards have a striped shimmering patterns on them. The colouring of the wood is very unique and the the pattern seems to change depending on how you hold the wood up to the light. My son is stealing all of these pieces for his bedroom. I have to admit they are really unique (ie. good) looking. Is this what is referred to as quartersawn wood? If so, is it common to get some quartersawn mixed in when buying plainsawn?

It would be nice to see photo. Does not sound like quartersawn, more like mineral streaks or simply natural color variations in the wood.

Click on the links below to see two photos of the red striped pattern on the Lauzon red birch 3 1/4" flooring that I am talking about. Is this what quartersawn flooring looks like?

Ignore the glare - it is from the flash on my camera.

Anyone else notice the strangeness of the way this forum is keeping time?

I've seen some birdseye Maple come through with Lauzon in the past. You know that wasn't put in the floor! Probably get a complaint with it. Not sure what Don is seeing.

Ken - I emailed the two photos to you. Any chance you could post them here? :) Birds eye maple - you got me real curious now. :)

Thanks,

Don
