We purchased Mirage hardwood flooring, Maple 3 1/4" by 3/4". As we are laying the floor down I have noticed that strips are tapered at one end. Causing the floors not to fit togther nicely. Before I call the supplier I wanted to understand what causes this.... and is it acceptable. I can't believe this is acceptable or normal. But I'm new to this and installing about 2000 sq ft in my home. This has slowed me down considerable as now I have to check each board and how it fits before nailing down.... It seems to only affect the nicer long pieces.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

That's too bad. Sorry to hear that about Mirage. It is not normal or ok but it does happen. It is mis-milling and those planks should not be used. The manufacturers fall back on the old 5% rule which basically says 5% of the flooring is allowed to be unusable and you, as the installer, are expected to cull out the poorly milled/damaged boards. Sucks, I know but that's the way it is.
