I installed pre-finished bamboo flooring about 9 months ago. I moved an area rug around today and I noticed that the floor is now a different color where the rug was. There is an outline of where the rug was. I have skylights in the room and the light can be pretty intense during the day inside of that room.
1) Is this normal of all finishes with UV Rays?
2) Is there anything I can do to prevent this or minimize future damages?

Thanks in advance

Very odd, never seen or heard that happen with bamboo. Anyone else?

yes, it is typically for wood flooring and finishes to change over time once exposwed to uv light, havent seen it this quickly on bamboo but it doesnt really surprise me, is it darker where it was exposed to light? MY suggestions would be either to move the rug around periodically so the area gets an even exposure to light, or look into a uv window tint.

Thanks for the feedback. The floor is darker under where the rug was, the sun has bleached the floors outside of the rug. The effects are real minor at this point and my wife didnt even notice. I was just looking for a way to minimize this. I will probably remove the rug for awhile and then look into some type of tinting for the skylights.

Typically, pre-finished flooring has a water-based finish which WILL NOT amber. But I don't know if this true of bamboo. I'm not up on that species' peculiarities.
However, it does sound like it might have had oil-based poly on it instead of water-based. Oil-based typically darkens under a rug.
What Kevin says sounds to be the only solution under these circumstances.

Is this carbonized bamboo? It will lighten as will uncarbonized with direct light,,,, however, I'm guessing this is carbonized bamboo that is doing what is is going to do. Sunlight through skylights will change any natural product from Cork to Wood to Bamboo. ONly difference is degree of change. So, move the rug as suggested and allow the floor to evenly change.
Enjoy the floor.
