I recently had my hardwoods refinished. I have a couple of questions about the finish and would like to hear opinions. First, I have small dent in the wood and wanted to know if there were any solutions to minimize it. This was not caused by the refinishing job but was something I noticed after hosting a party. My questions regarding the finish are the following :

1) There appears to be swirls in the finish just about everywhere on the floor. These are only noticable when looking down at the floor closely under can lighting in the ceiling. I wanted to get opinions if this looks like a quality job and if swirls in the finish are to be expected.

2) I noticed some scratches up against the wall. I believe they were caused by the edger sander. If this is an isolated area and I have not really noticed it anywhere else would you still consider this a quality job. Also, is there anything I can do to minimize these scratches in the finish.

Another coat of finish would make your floor look better. Did the contractor use a water-based finish? Water-based finish show machine scratches from sanding more than regular poly. Coats of water-based finish do not have the film build of regular poly, also.
