I just removed my carpets in prep for a gluedown, and there is a bunch of old paint overspray on the plywood subfloor from the original (1974) construction.

It's stuck on pretty good. Must this be sanded off before a gluedown? And if so, what is the best way? Rent a floor sander? Are there sanders that don't raise a lot of dust? (probably a ridiculous question) i.e. with vacuum bags attached.

Thanks all for your consideration==this message board has been invaluable to me.

Yes, that is the way to do it.

There are floor sanders with dust collection, but you will be hard pressed to find one at a tool rental place.

My question is... Why are you gluing down, over a wood substrate?
Are you using a thin engineered, that will only allow a gluedown installation?
