I'm getting ready to refinish my hardwood floor.... 12x12 room. pretty much know much of the process. 2 questions really. Floor is in overall good shape, no bowing, nails are down not a ton of stains. Just old probably 30 yrs or more since refinished. I'm going to sand with orbital that has 3 6" pads on the bottom. I want to know what a good grit usage would be. I'm thinking of using 36 then 40 then 80 or should I use 36 then 40 then 80 then 120. Or is it ok to leave out the 120 and just go with a final sand with 80.

2nd question. there are some pet smells in the wood. Will the sanding, staining and poly take out most of the smell? was thinking of mopping with vinegar before starting. Or is there something else to do? Want to start sanding tomorrow any quick responses would be great. Thanx for all the help in advance!

dont believe the machine you are using will remove urine damage..but once resealed, you shouldn't smell it anymore.

the grit sequence is good, and 80 grit will be sufficient fine cut.
