Hey guys. I was taught by companies I have worked for to finish the sanding at 100 grit on the drum and 120 on the edger for natural floors and 120 drum/150 edger on stains and natural maple to hide sanding scratches. I have yet to see a finish product recommend that high and I know others who don't go that high. I guess my question is this: How do you stop so low without adding extra screening steps and palm-sanding steps to accomodate the transitions and edger scratches? I am a not-so-efficient sander/finisher and would like to avoid adding extra steps in the process. :? Thanx, David

On my edger, I use 100 grit and a felt back up pad to reduce scratch. Only time I use 120 on my drum sander is for parquet or mixed media. If you want learn more about sanding, consider taking a class by Bona or the NWFA.
They are held all the time all over the country. Highly recommended.
