I have red oak hardwoods that were finished about 10-11 years ago with Dura-Seal semi-gloss. In some high traffic areas it seems like the finish has worn off and it looks as if the wood is bare. It has a dingy look to it probably from foot traffic. How do I clean off the dirt before I screen and re-coat? I would not want to try and sand out the dirt, as I don't know how deep it is. I'm sure there is some finish in the wood, just not very much.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

You probably cant get it without sanding. If its that old and down to the bare wood then id say call a pro to evaluate before you get yourself in a pickle. Re coating is fine as long as you dont want those traffic patterns out, to remove they will need to be sanded. we call it polishing a turd, not trying to be condescending but its the floor mans equivalent to painting over dirt/rust.
