I don't know much about Shaw. I was always in the mindset like SP...don't install carpet manufacturer hardwoods...but now that Shaw is apparently getting help from Anderson in their recent merge, things could be changing?

What kinda blew me away was their solid 8 inch plank. Considering Shaw is sold more in carpet stores, how do they expect to get this product installed without problems? I would be leary installing it.

maybe somebody can get the installation PDF from that link to work. I can't.

When I had my showroom in L.A., pushed alot of Shaw carpet, very professional, dot your I's company, ( not like a competetor I wont mention ). Although when they got into wood, I stayed away. That was I'll say about 8-9 years ago, ( same mindset as you guys ).
I didn't realize there was a merger with Anderson. I hate to see this merger. I'm sure the local Hardwood Distributors that carry Anderson agree. IMO this will have big impact, Shaw is huge and aggressive.
I would be suprised if they didnt have their bases covered on the 8" product. Although I didn't see anything on the installation PDF relating to that width, for different procedure, i.e. Gluing with Nailing.

Howard:

That actually happened almost three years ago. Only last month did Shaw buy out yet another hardwood manufacturer...

And two years ago Zickgraf..

Plenty of cash to spend with Berkshire Hathaway behind Shaw.

It also should be interesting to see how the move to several high gloss finished products will do. Anderson/Shaw claim Luster Lock is the answer

I saw some beautiful Shaw 8 or 10 inch distressed stuff awhile back a guy was loading. He was an off duty fireman, it was 3/4 going over concrete. He said he was going to glue it.

I read that pdf and it's similar to Armstrongs especially about using EMM's. The job I am on now was running 3.8's on a cacl test. The meter showed a 2.5

It may not be that the carpet manufacturer does not make a nice wood product it's the fact that their claims analyst's are not wood savvy and give out bad info.

carefull. Its solid 3/4" but not a single plank, looks like a edge glued laminated product. I have seen a few others out there similar as of late. looks ok in dark colors because you cant see the seperations as much. Its made up like a butcher block.
