We had our floors professionally done about two weeks ago. It was a 2 week process. Rough sanding, then fine sanding, vacuuming, then the application of Bona Poly Oil-Modified Wood Floor Finish. Then fine sanding, vacuuming, then another coat of the Bona Poly. That was the end.

On the bucket is says you should use 3 coats, but the owner told us, they never use 3, only 2, and that's enough.

The result is that there are rough patches that feel gritty, while most areas feel smooth. What happened here? Would a 3rd coat solve the issue.

I am worried that the gritty patches will collect dirt and will be hard to get clean. Also, are they more prone to water damage?

Is the Bona Poly a piano top finish or not?

Unfortunately we already paid for the job. I am worried that it has not been done right.

Thank you very much in advance.

A smooth floor will be easier to clean. Two coats is what finish producers used to recommend and holds up well. Three thin coats are what a lot of guys are using, now. The finished floors should be smooth and have an even shine, to be acceptable. If you are not satisfied, call the company and see if they will half the cost for another coat of finish since you are not satisfied.
