I disagree it's like a radial arm saw. The arm is fixed on this Skil saw but on a radial, it rotates. I know as I've had two before. The way this saw cuts angles is to use the fence to set the angle. This can be done with radials and sliders as well by using variable fence jigs. It is similar to a radial in the sense that the motor can be turned 90 degrees to allow for ripping and parallel cuts. This is the same way a radial arm rips stock as well. They could have designed it with a swinging arm like a radial or a slider, but that would increase the cost and the weight. I think it is an ingenious design in simplicity. But I say make it cordless with a 24 volt lithium battery, spare battery and charger. That's not necessary but would make it even more portable. If the right job comes along, I'm getting one.

After seeing you post about your "rotund ex-wife"... Maybe I shouldnt assume you know that's my warped sense of humor  I've been happily married for 18 years.

Hi Guys,

My name is Garth and I work for Skil. You can post your questions here on the blog, or you may e-mail me directly at garth.prince@us.bosch.com.

I will answer the questions that popped up most frequently on the blog:

When and where is it available and how much is it?

Febuary / March 2010 starting with Lowes in the northeastern U.S and at Lowes.com

We hope Lowes expands distribution nationally, but that all depends on how well the saw sells. We also are trying to get the saw at flooring supply distributors around the country.

Target retail is $159

How do you move it along the floor?
There are 4 rubber feet that keep the saw from marring the floor. The saw weighs less than 24 lbs and can easily be moved. It much easier to move than a miter saw.

Will the product hold up to Pro Use?
Yes. We considered this in the design. The base is die-cast aluminum; the rail system has linear ball bearings similar to a slide miter saw. Lubricating the rails is need from time to time, but no more than a slide miter saw.

We tested the saw in ¾” solid wood (oak) engineered flooring, and laminate.

How much dust is created?
It’s no worse than a table or miter saw. The saw does include a dust port that fits a standard shop vacuum. With the use of a vacuum, the dust is significantly reduced and the amount created would be acceptable for remodel / existing construction work.

How does this help a professional flooring installer?
- You can stay down on your knee pads. No need to get up and down during installation
- The saw can be at the installation point. (not on a different level or in the garage)
- Its perfect for cross and miter cuts
- It will cut all solid flooring types (oak, maple, cherry)

You will still want to have your table and miter saw. There are specialty cuts pros make this saw will not make.
- The saw doesn’t have a bevel feature.
- Because of the guarding system, free hand cuts cannot be made.

Blade Type and Cost
4 3/8” 40 carbide teeth blade
MSRP $15.00

We will be at the surfaces show in Las Vegas February 2-4. Stop by our booth for a demonstration.

Howard, used the saw yet?

We finally got ours and used it yesterday and today. Not totally dustless with the hook-up to the shop-vac but darn close.

All I have to do is turn around and cut. Not even standing up. I loveisit!!!
