Once again thanks for all the great input... I have been in the process of ripping up a rug in the upstairs of my house and found under the rug is just the subfloor. No hardwoord over the subfloor so I'm replacing the rug putting down lauan, with bamboo. As I was ripping up the rug I found in one area near the entrance to the bathroom, a place where my subfloor is raised like a ^. its not the whole piece , just a small section. How do I correct this? Shoudl I use a sawzall or circular saw to cut that section out?, and how will I get another pices of wood in the section if there is nothing to fasten the new replacement wood to?

thanks all
G

If you cannot sand it out yourself, I recommend you hire a local handyman or carpenter to replace this section of subflooring. This is a structural repair, not cosmetic, and by the nature of your questions, I take it you are unfamiliar with doing this kind of work.

If you do decide to tackle it yourself, you need to cut out the existing subfloor with a circular saw set to the correct depth. You need to locate teh floor joists and have the seams of the patch meet the original floor over the floor joist so they are each supported by the joist. Cut the patch out of plywood of the same thickness and screw it into the joists. Rescrew the existing floor into the joists at the seams if necessary. make sure everything is flush.
