Guy's,
I was reading on the contracters forum about a glue down that had to be torn out after only 3 years. The guy said "the installer never flashed it level", what does that mean???

floorguy,
I'm afraid I'll have the same problem with my installer, but I don't understand your terminology. What do I ask him .... "never flashed it level". You guy's are probably getting a good laugh out of me, but I'd rather ask than be sorry later

LOL! Fat finger syndrome!!

That should have said...

Bringing the substrate to flatness specs.

"Never", meaning... he didn't even try to make the substrate flat.

"the installer never flashed it level"

floorguy,
Our installer never did anything to check the level of the concrete. They just came in and started spreading the glue. We have a hollow spot about 3x3. Are we going to have major problems down the road? Should we make them redo that section? The job isn't finished yet and we paid them about 1/2. I found an independant inspector on this site? Do we need him to come out?
I don't understand this whole thing. Am I supposed to tell an installer how to do his job? do most installers level the floor first? I just don't want to pay him and have a huge problem later.

Don't pay him till he fixes the problem, or takes some off his final bill, for what its going to take to fix it.

floorguy,
Thank you for all of you advice. The installers admitted that they did not check for flatness, said the boss didn't tell them to do that. The boss, who is never around made all kinds of excuses. Bottom line, they are tearing out the section that is really big, 3x3 and redoing it. We are making them fill the smaller sections with drilling and filling. After we move all the furniture, we are going to check for any more spots. We are going to ask for a 3-5 year warranty. We contacted an independant inspector and he may come out on Friday. At this point I think it's too late to test for a straight floor. We are not ready to tear up the whole floor and start over.
