Hello!

I recently pulled carpet up off the steps. They are really nice looking treads...I believe they may be pine, but have NO idea!!
If they are pine, can I stain them? Will they look ok?

How can I tell if they're pine?

Post a picture. They could be pine, if you're from the east coast or east of the Rockies. West of the Rockies, they're probably fir if they're not oak. Neither stain that well (pine or fir) but can finish OK. They will not be very durable.
