How many of you use Trio by Lagler or similar machines?

Let's talk about oak flooring and if you have a lot of experience with this machine tell me what is does on softer woods maple or douglas fir, or on hard ones such as ipe?
I hear you have to belt sand it to 80 grit , edger and then pass the trio?
Is that what all of you do?

Can you just belt sand it 40 then 60 then trio 100 and 120 and ready for a stain?

Do you use screens before the stain, what grit?

Do you maroon pad between the coats or buffer?

I am very interested how many of you use this sander and what technique?

Thank you

Rafal

I haven't used one yet but worked with people that have. The basic idea is that the trio replaces your buffer in the sanding process.I'm not sure that the trio has the power to take 60 big machine lines out with 100 grit papers on it but I believe that if you sand the floor nice and flat and take it to something like 80 grit, the trio is capable of finishing it off from there.

IF you use the trio with 120 papers, you should be able to finish the floor form there although some contractors do use screens under the trio for stain jobs. The trio is a very smooth machine though, if you overuse it , you will polish the hell out of the wood and make it too smooth.
