Hi forum

I am after a bit of advice if possible. My house is hardwood floored downstairs and I would really like to extend that to the stairs and upstairs landing. The house was built in 2004 and has concrete construction stairs and concrete upstairs floor base

Is it possible to lay floorboards directly on to the concrete base of the stairs and landing or must I lay a plywood substructure? I am concerned about any height differences between the landing and bedrooms / bathroom and doors

At the moment I am taking the assumption that the stairs and top landing are level and in good condition and damp / moisture in the concrete is not a concern

I am keen to try this myself and any advice will be greatly appreciated

Many thanks, Ralph

You may glue flooring to the concrete or float a hardwood floor over the concrete.
For safety reasons you must keep the height of each stair tread and at the bottom and top steps within three-eigths of an inch as this is a building code.
