After just refinishing hardwoods with polyurethane, what should be a good minimum of time to wait before using gas fireplace? The fireplace is floor level, and I have 18” of hearth stone between the fireplace and hardwoods. If it’s cranked up, it can put out some serious heat. I’m sure the longer the better, but with our first blast of cold and snow coming, I’d rather not go without it longer than I have to- fireplace uses considerably less propane than the furnace. Thanks in advance.

If the fireplace is a listed appliance you can use it right away to help heat the room. Products are listed by different companies to be sure that they are safe. An 18 inch hearth will keep the flooring from getting too hot. The heated room will help the finish cure sooner. I recommend using a fan to keep the heat from being stratified, where it is hot near the ceiling and colder near the floor.
