I have just finished staining my new... old floor and was planning to use varathane Oil finish for a top coat.
Wy wife is out of the house until Sunday night. I will be done applying by then.
PROBLEM... She is preggers.
Question... How long are the fumes dangerous from this finish?
I have searched everywhere and heard from 24 hours to 3 weeks.
Need to know fast.
Would I be better off going with the water based... even though I was told that I would like this oil better?
Thanks in advance
Kevin

I would go with water borne finish considering you wife is pregnant, Street Shoe 275 from Basic Coatings low VOC leed compliant and cures in 24 hours.

I would also recommend using a 2 component water based finish. These finishes are tougher than the oil based, cure much faster, and dry faster.

Waterborne is less harmful .But most waterborne finishes are quite difficult to work with and are not at all forgiving like oil based is. If you feel comfortable applying water base finish like Street Shoe, then go for it.

IF you go with oil based, keep her out of the house for 3 days beyond the day that the last coat is applied.
