I thought many of you guys would enjoy a condensed version of the school. I don't think I pronounced one of the instructors name right...but oh well.

Ken, that one's way better than the one I attended in the late 90's. I guess it should be. Looks like fun.

I found this quite interesting in how to repair a floating floor. Shown are Formica sample chips glued to the underside of an adjacent board with epoxy. It's a much quicker way to replace a floating board, while the adhesive sets in an instant...almost. No more using weights to keep it down and glue squeeze out doesn't exist.

Ken, will those chips cause a bump in the seam? Thought about that but never wanted to try it on someone.

Not sure about that SP. I missed part of the discussion. I guess if you cut out the underlayment in those areas it will make up for it.

Ya, we have used that method, and you are exactly right; cut out the underpad where you are inserting the chips.

And if the underpad is the vapor retarder?

Given that its such a small area, my guys usually just tape it up with duct tape where the small piece is cut out. Seems to work; havent had any floors blow apart due to this repair method.

I think that's a great concept for floating board replacement their showing. But I cant imagine what a customer would think seeing all those sample color chips, ( I know, the school probably had them donated), but in the real world I would buy a couple feet of Formica, and cut some strips.

Yes exactly, Howard. My service guys generally tell Susie (my generic customer) to go buy a new dress while the repairs are going on. They tell her (sometimes him) that it is too traumatic to watch the repairs going on. (lol)

I guess it would work but I can't envision how your guys cut patches out underneath the existing planks.

Well if no one is looking, ya just use a pry bar to lift the floor (gently) in that area. Ya only have to cut about an inch under the leading edge of the board. Can even use sissors if needed, or a utility knife. Not really difficult to get enough access under the floor for that.
