 Post subject: water based poly on oil stain?

I have to stain and poly nosings to match flooring. I have a Minwax oil based stain I mixed. I want to use water-based poly to finish over the stain. Would that be alright?

Most water based finishes are compatible with oil based/solvent stains. Read finish manufacturers directions
