Hey all,

I have a problem and was hoping to get some advice.

I ended up removing a few walls out of the house and had to fill in the hardwood in between. I accidentally used white oak instead of red. The plan is to stain (still pondering colors). Do you guys think it's possible to use darker stain to hide the difference between white and red oak?

Thanks
T

You will need to use very dark stain to have them look close. Using a different color for each specie may help, if you don't want to go too dark. Adding a little red pigment to the white oak part will be helpful, but don't add too much cause red will make a big difference in color with just a pinch. Some black dye or pigment in the mid coat, presuming a three coat finish, will help even out the color. You may need to brush the final coat to avoid streaks.
