I was told today that if you put paint thinner on floor it would not gum up sand paper. It does not sound like a good idea to me or that it will not work. This floor needs 12 grit paper. Any comments.

Maybe all those will work but I am not a fan of introducing flammable liquids into my work area and I'll bet most consumers are not either. Nor would they appreciate you burning down their house.

At 9 dollars a gallon, I wouldn't waste the paint thinner. For nasty floors , I charge more and use more sand paper.

I think it also has to do with the quality of the sand paper. As far as floor sanding, I really can't comment but for other sanding needs I know premium sandpapers like 3M Gold Fre-cut will reduce gumming up and help prevent cratering or 'fisheyes'. As far as floor sanders, I'm not sure what type of sand papers are available but I would use one with aluminum oxide abrasives and one that costs a little more rather than skimping on costs.

You can refinish hardwood floor yourself or hire a hardwood floor refinishing company to do it. In either case, there are several things you must determine for any kind of wood floor.
