Stupidly we put a xmas tree on our wood floor
The tree used a tree stump as the base, after a few weeks I moved tree to find a horrible dark patch.

The floor is engineered oak that has a fumed and oiled finish.

I have tried to use vinegar with wire wool and a clean rag... but it still looks dark..

I've read bleach is the next step but wondering will this effect the fumed finish?

any help appreciated!

is it ok to use Oxalic Acid on a fumed/smoked floorboard or will it strip the colour out?

i think if you pun the oxalic acid in the cleaner..it may be good..but that's not your problem..lightly sand and touch up is my opinion..oil finishes are easy to fix

thanks, Ive lightly sanded and it seems much better now, its does have some dark patches however still in the middle...

so Ive ordered some oxalic acid to see if I can lift these out before I apply oil to the floor...

just wanted to make sure this wouldnt make it to light by lifting the smoked finish out? otherwise might be better to leave a slightly darker patch.

I have a spare plank so might have to do a test...

The ones I get calls on are usually pretty deep into the wood. Show us some pics before and after if possible.
