I WAS RECENTLY HIRED TO CLEAN A 50 YEAR OLD HOME WITH OAK FLOORING THROUGHOUT. FLOOR APPEARS TO BE SEALED, GLOSSY IN ALL AREAS, BUT WHITE HAZING THROUGHOUT. PREVIOUS OWNER PROBABLY NEVER TOOK CARE OF FLOORS. ASSUMING OLD WAX? ANY TYPE OF CLEANER PUTS WHITE HAZE AND HAVE TO WIPE IT UP IMMEDIATELY. OTHERWISE THE FLOORS IN REALLY GOOD SHAPE. I AM AT A LOST WHERE TO START. JUST USING SLIGHTLY DAMP MOP RIGHT NOW. SOME SCRATCHES THOUGHOUT. NOT A FLOOR EXPERT, BUT WOULD LIKE TO OFFER BEST SOLUTION TO OWNERS, BUT THIS I HAVE NO CLUE HOW TO HANDLE.

THANKS SO MUCH.... :(

That white haze may very well be a shellac finish that has hazed over from water being applied to it. That is what shellec does and personally, I know of no remedy outside of refinishing. Anyone else?

No fixing that white haze. No telling why it is there. Whether it be water applied or wax applied or another finish applied on top of the existing finish..
No matter what caused the problem;;; ya ain't gettin' rid of it without re-finishing.

Does this milky appearence, look like it is on the surface of the finish, or on the wood, under the finish.

HI, AND THANK EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP. ON FURTHER QUESTIONING AND RESEARCH, I FOUND THE FLOORS ARE FINISHED IN SHELLAC. THE FINISH ITSELF HAS THE "MILKY" APPEARANCE IN CERTAIN AREAS. ALSO, HOUSE IS BETWEEN RIVER AND OCEAN, AND FEEL IT HAS HAD ITS SHARE OF HUMIDITY. OTHERWISE, THE FLOOR LOOKS GREAT. AGAIN, THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP.
