What is the opinion of the strongest finish as for wear thru and surface scratches. Traffic or a compairable water finish or fabulon or a comparable oil finish.

Ive seen surface scratches on floors that were finished with one of the top brands of water finishes where little surface scratches on a floor finished with 3 coats of lenmar. If fabulon is to be better than lenmar, is this better? Even though cratches are going to happen, are we going for a nicer finish that will look like new until it wears thru or a finish that will scratch more than others but not wear thru for a while. This is something that is just kicking around in my mind.

Tony

Why traffic? is it its scratch resistance or its wear thru properties.

Traffic is fairly easy to apply. At $80/ gal it's a nightmare if you screw it up.

 well put.

Sean, it's not that hard to apply, it is an A/B catlist product and about as easy to apply as any other water based poly. The main thing with Traffic is getting the amount to mix right. Many times finishers will mix to much and try and use it past it’s window. At which point it starts to jelly and ruins the finish. If you master estimating how much to use and bite the bullet and dump any extra that you mixed after its usability window (untill you get the estimating right), it is as easy as any OMU.

Chuck, take a look at this finish at www.trustorcoatings.com, it is the most wear-resistant finish I have found.
How about Precision Technology's Nano Technology? I am trying to find a Taber Abrasion Test on this finish to see if it comes close to the WearMax Advanced Ceramic finish.

Nano technology is an exciting, new level of floor finishes. I hope it's promise holds true. I cannot recommend a finish that has had so little field testing. As many finishers know, some manufacturers in the past rushed products into the marketplace before they were fully tested. Problems ensued and finishers were left holding the bag. Bona Traffic has been reformulated since it's inception and been improved upon, rendering some of it's earlier problems void. Precision's N-Tech shows promise and I hope to be testing this finish very soon. As far as WearMax, this finish is a great finish as applied by Award at the factory. The problem for on site finishing has been even distribution of the mineral (ceramic).

Some people have trouble with even distribution with OMU. It may not be for everyone but it is a tuff finish.

I used trek plus on my floor. I just build a house and wanted the best. I have been talking with a few reps for polys. traffic, street shoe, and trek. The trek rep was in tough with me the most so i started using their product on a few floors and when they threw a few free gals my way for my house, how could I refuse. Its been a few months and im very dissapointed with it. It doent hold up nearly to the strength as Lenmar. This is why I will probably recoat in the fall (when i can send my family away for a little bit) probably with 2 coats of traffic.
